The year 2009 has been really special for all who have any connection with the institution. It was 50 years ago that our school was named after the poet Radnóti Miklós (killed in WW2 as a Jew), and this year is also the 100th birthday of the poet himself. This latter one is celebrated all over the country, and we are glad to contribute. How could we mark the anniversary with dignity and joy?
The opening ceremony was solemn. The competition for the youngest needed knowledge and wit. The evening with alumni celebrities was hilarious. The Coffee Shop meant exciting conversations with old students who work in different fields of arts: scholars, authors and managers in literature, film, fine art. On the poet's birthday hundreds of students, teachers and alumni recited all of his works in front of his statue in our huge lobby redecorated for the celebrations. A successful concert showed how much some of our ex-students achieved in classical music. Several temporary exhibitions reminded us day by day of the special year. A thick volume (edited by some brave and busy teachers) contains not only the history of 50 years (about the building, the subjects taught, weekdays and holidays) but it offers complete lists of teachers, teacher trainees and students. An unforgettable alumni meeting was the final event of the jubilee.
